Summary of Haddam Board of Selectmen Meeting: July 2025

(July 17, 2025) — The regular meeting of the Haddam Board of Selectmen on July 14, 2025, was called to order by First Selectman Robert McGarry at 6:33 p.m. at Old Town Hall, 21 Field Park Drive, Haddam. Selectmen Kate Anderson and Peter Baird were present.

From the First Selectman:

The five sites selected for consideration for the Town Garage include 300 Saybrook Road (Rossi property), 59-61 Cedar Lake Road, 439 Saybrook Road (fire station), Jail Hill, and 733 Killingworth Road (East Coast Salvage). There will further discussion at the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on July 17, 2025, and a joint meeting with the Board of Selectmen on July 30, 2025. Connecticut Wedding Group will lease the Cutaway Harrow Building on the Rossi property as a sales office and meeting space.

Scovil Hoe Phase Two remediation of hazardous building materials is almost complete. The remaining item is caulking on the roof. Developer Parker Benjamin will start framing the windows shortly.

Blueway Commons Phase Two held a ribbon cutting on June 24, 2025.

The Verizon antenna array was installed on the new Haddam Neck cellular tower.

The town budget passed on May 21, 2025, and the school budget finally passed after a third vote on July 8, 2025. There will be no increase to the mil rate.

Selectman Anderson thanked the state troopers who reported to Higganum Cove to remove vehicles parked in front of residents’ driveways.

She also made a motion to approve the July 2025 tax refunds in the amount of $6,284.51, while Selectman Baird made a motion to approve the Elderly Tax Relief Appeals. In addition, he made a motion to extend the Tylerville Business Interruption Grant through the rest of the year. All three motions carried.

Selectman Anderson made a motion to hire David Pavone as a Transfer Station attendant, and Selectman Baird made a motion to hire Kevin Yantosh as a Public Works maintainer. Both motions carried.

The Higganum Cemetery Association asked about maintaining non-historical cemeteries, so that those who maintain the cemeteries could be covered by town insurance. The Board of Selectmen will ask the Town Attorney to advise.

The next regular Board of Selectmen meeting is scheduled for August 11, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., at Old Town Hall, 21 Field Park Drive in Haddam.
