(June 21, 2025) — The Killingworth Women’s Organization kicked off its new Read and Eat summer program at the Killingworth Library with a fantastic first session on June 18, 2025 drawing in local children for an afternoon of stories, food and hands-on fun.
Participants enjoyed a lively mix of readings, including selections from the RSD17 summer reading list, books celebrating Juneteenth, and cheerful stories about sunflowers. Thanks to Café Laurel, the kids were treated to delicious sandwiches as they listened. After story time, attendees planted sunflower seeds to take home and helped tend the library’s own children’s vegetable garden, digging in the dirt and learning about how things grow.
The Read and Eat program continues every Wednesday at noon through August 20, 2025 at Killingworth Library. Each week will feature a different selection of books, lunch and a themed activity—ranging from crafts to gardening—all designed to inspire a love of reading and community.
The program is free and open to children of all ages. Come hungry for stories and snacks—and ready to explore something new each week!
