Girls Lacrosse 2025: HKHS Triumphs over the Valley Warriors

By Janice Calvi-Ruimerman

(May 12, 2025)— On May 8, 2025, under the lights at Valley Regional’s beautiful new turf field, the Haddam Killingworth High School Girls Lacrosse team dominated the Warriors as former Coaches Cassidy, Sue and Bruce cheered from the stands.

Senior Captain Gabby Williams was on fire in the box giving up minimal goals as her defensive line of Aubrey Lonergan, Maddie Catalano, and Chloe Engler formed a shield around the net. Steals, long clears, and a solid defense created a treacherous zone that the Warriors just could not penetrate. Despite some tumultuous plays and inconsistent whistles, the Cougars kept their eyes on the prize and forged on clearly united in their crusade to victory.

Audrey Bailey and Julia Bermingham pressed the Warriors into multiple losses of possession, while interceptions by Sydney Wrinn and Mia McLaughlin advanced the ball down the HK line. On draw, possession was steadfast as the Cougars commanded the field with the formidable triple threat of Lundt, Ramino and Ruimerman on center. The battle cry of the Warriors remained no match for the Cougars as the second, third and fourth quarters were clearly HK’s. With the speed and agility of Chloe Oboma, the Warriors were left perplexed as they struggled to regain control.

As May 8, 1945, was a significant day in history, marking the end of World War II in Europe, so too did May 8, 2025, mark the surrender of the Valley Warriors to the Haddam Killingworth Girls Lacrosse Team and become HK’s V-V Day (Victory over Valley Day).

The final score was 14-8 HK for the win. Goals: Oboma (1) Ramino (6) Ruimerman (5) Weise (1) Wrinn (1)
