(April 11, 2025) — Mr. HK, Haddam Killingworth High School’s annual talent showcase, made its return to the high school auditorium on March 13, 2025, featuring six talented contestants. Competing for the title were seniors Joey Jacobs and Will Lirot, juniors Jeffrey Schull and Zachary Goldfarb, sophomore Paul Birkmeyer, and freshman Nick Stegman.
Jeffrey Schull (photo above) won the Mr. HK, 2025 title after the judges and audience mutually agreed that his rap about Mr. HK could not be passed on. Schull had previously participated in Mr. HK during his freshman and sophomore years, so he was very excited to earn the crown.
The show, themed after the Disney movie Rio, brought the audience on a trip to Brazil complete with palm trees, colorful macaws, and jungle leaves surrounding the auditorium. Music from the movie played throughout the event, and the HKTV crew wore tropical leis to fit right in.
The event opened with a dance number performed by all the contestants, followed by each individual talent act, then finished with the formal wear attire section.
Lindsay Blade co-hosted with Gabby Lopez, keeping the crowd excited and informed.
The judges (HKHS teachers), Mrs. Masselli, Mr. Keck, and Ms. Baldwin, sat to the side of the stage watching and judging each act thoughtfully.
Mr. HK is a HKTV fundraising event that supports the Multimedia Program at HKHS. All proceeds go to the program to give students hands-on experience within all media fields.
