RSD 17 Superintendent Jeff Wihbey Resigns

Submitted by RSD 17 Board of Education

(March 28, 2025) — We write to you today to acknowledge the resignation of Superintendent Jeff Wihbey, which was announced on March 27, 2025.  His leadership has played an important role in shaping initiatives within our district, and we are grateful for his contributions these past four years.  As he moves on to the next chapter in his career, we extend our appreciation and best wishes for his future endeavors. Superintendent Wihbey will stay with us until the end of the school year, to ensure a smooth transition and minimize any disruption to school operations.

We apologize that we were not able to inform you of this development directly. We learned about the transition at the same time as you did.  We deeply value open communication with our community and are committed to ensuring timely updates moving forward.

As next steps, the RSD 17 Board of Education will focus on naming an interim Superintendent and engaging a recruiter to lead a comprehensive search process for our next district leader.  We are committed to ensuring that stakeholder voices are included in this process, as we seek a leader who will best serve our students, staff and community.

In the meantime, our work continues.  The Board of Education remains committed to maintaining the high-quality education at RSD17 that prepares students for success beyond graduation.  We appreciate the dedication of our teachers and staff, who work each day to support and guide our students. We also are grateful to our parents for the encouragement they provide at home.  Most importantly, we recognize the hard work and commitment of our students, whose efforts drive our shared success.

Additionally, we remain focused on planning for the future to ensure our district remains strong, with responsible budgeting and long-term facility improvements. We are presently wrapping up the annual budget process and moving ahead with the evaluation of plans for a new or renovated high school.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in our shared mission of providing the best possible educational experience for our students.  As always, we welcome your input, whether through public comment at Board of Education meetings or by reaching out via email at boe@rsd17.org.
