Boys Basketball 2025: HKHS Falls to Shepaug Valley, Ending their Season

(March 11, 2025) —On March 4, 2025, the Haddam-Killingworth High School Boys Basketball team suffered a season-ending defeat at Shepaug Valley by a final score of 89-65.  HKHS was able to keep the game within reach during the first quarter, but a Shepaug Valley surge during the second quarter rendered the game largely out of reach despite evenly played third and fourth quarters.

Senior Andrew Crayton led with 23 points, followed by senior Cody Robinson with 19. Junior Declan Moriarty had 5 points and led the team with 4 assists. Junior Jay Evans contributed 8 points while junior powerhouse Spencer Savoy had 4 points and 2 rebounds. Crayton led in rebounds with 10 and sophomore Noah Marica pulled down 4. Senior Jake McKenzie had 2 assists while senior Joe Slane had 2 steals.

Also scoring for the Cougars, Marica (4) and junior Ethan Pitts (2). It was a bittersweet end to an up-and-down season that found the Cougars qualifying for the Shoreline Conference and State tournaments for the second year in a row. The Cougars will miss the departing seniors: the athleticism of Slane, the strength of McKenize, the Robinson 3-pointer, and Crayton’s dynamic game.

Coach Keith Ferguson and the Cougars will look to make a run again next season with a solid returning team, including three-year starter Moriarty and juniors Evans, Savoy, and Pitt.

Coach Tee Adeleke’s JV team saw another strong season, suffering only one loss. Sophomores Brody Ferguson, Kody Lehet, Mason Eighmy, and Marica will add to the depth of HK’s bench. Thank you to Andrew Crayton, Jake McKenzie, Cody Robinson, and Joe Slane. We will miss your determination, hustle and skill. It has been a pleasure watching you play. For the returning team, members, family and friends, see you on the Court in December 2025.
