(February 18, 2025) — On February 11, 2025, the Haddam-Killingworth High School Boys Basketball team soundly defeated Valley Regional 73-59. It was a historic evening, as senior Andrew Crayton achieved a career 1,000 points, scoring 30 on the night.

The Cougars were led by the Senior Four, with Crayton, Cody Robinson, Jake McKenzie, and Joe Slane each contributing to the win. Slane had nine rebounds while McKenzie had three, including the play of the game, an assist to Crayton with the clock winding down in the 4th as Crayton landed a fade-away jumper for two, tipping his career total to 1,001. The crowd erupted with teammates rushing the court to join in the celebration.

Throughout the night the Cougars kept their focus and maintained the lead. Robinson continued his constructive play adding fourteen points, while McKenzie had six and Slane one. Rounding out the scoring, HKHS’s junior trio of Declan Moriarty (17), Jay Evans (4), and powerhouse Spencer Savoy (1).

It was a night for the seniors, though, and for these seniors we are most grateful. It has been a treat to watch them play, from their early travel basketball days to their last regular season home game at Patsy Kamerica Field House. Highlights we will treasure include the Crayton steal with an assist to Robinson lay-up (perfected back in middle school), Slane’s athleticism and impressive rebounding, McKenzie’s development into a stellar player, and Crayton’s intuitive play.  It has been a pleasure watching this group of seniors and they will be missed. For now, we will continue to root them on. The Cougars have one regular season game left as they travel to Ellington on February 12, 2025. Please note the schedule change: JV at 5:15 p.m., Varsity at 6:45 p.m. See you on the Court.
