Killingworth Evergreen Garden Club Brightens a Gray February Morning

Submitted by Kathleen Amoia

(February 13, 2025) — On February 11, 2025, with Valentine’s Day in mind, members of the Evergreen Garden Club gathered in the Killingworth Library meeting room. Their mission was to put together twenty-two floral arrangements to be delivered to seniors in need of a smile. Names of the recipients were submitted by Garden Club members, individuals and organizations.

The idea for the bouquet surprise originated with Club member Donna Fitzgerald, who offered to get the flowers. The Evergreen Garden Club approved the expenditure and the time commitment. They even watched several videos on flower arranging. Members gathered in the library’s meeting room to create colorful masterpieces, and in the process brought the room’s long table to an early bloom.

Those who delivered the arrangements were rewarded with smiles and a happy tear or two. One of the delivery squad, Jean Panciera, said “It was fun to create the arrangements, but much more fun to deliver them. We made a lot of senior women happy today.” Mary Solera added, “Recipients were both surprised and delighted to accept their bouquets. It was especially delightful to be the delivery service!  This project was a trifecta: great idea, a fun activity, and a benefit to the community.”

That Tuesday was a good morning for givers and receivers. And it was a fine example of what makes Killingworth the town we are proud to call home. If you have an interest in joining the Evergreen Garden Club, they would love to hear from you. They can be contacted through Sue Adinolfo at  susan.adinolfo@comcast.net
