Casting Call: Actors Needed at Oddfellows Playhouse in Middletown

Submitted by Dic Wheeler

(January 31, 2025) — Oddfellows Playhouse in Middletown will be hosting a New Plays Festival in February, and actors (teens, college students and adults) are needed.

Five young playwrights have been working with nationally produced playwright Darcy Parker Bruce this winter, developing new work for the stage. Darcy Parker Bruce has an MFA in Playwriting from Smith College, and their plays have been produced across the country as well as in Australia, Germany and Ireland. They have received many awards and fellowships, and several of their plays have been published by Broadway Play Publishing.

The five playwrights are X Hoover, Bella Pramanik and Zaryana Maldonado, all of Middletown; Sawyer Hollant of Portland; and Bayley Sklodosky of East Hampton. At the New Plays Festival we will need approximately twenty actors to take on the roles in these freshly written productions. Each play will be directed by a locally-based professional theater director and performed in a script-in-hand format, followed by a talkback with the writers, directors and cast.

Acting opportunities are available for teens, college students, and adult actors. The New Plays Festival is a one-day commitment for performers, and should be a fun and fast-paced day of creativity. There is no cost to participate and dinner will be provided. The Festival is on Saturday, February 15, 2025 (Snow Date is February 16, 2025). Rehearsals will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Dinner will be served at 5:00 p.m., and the Public Performance will take place at 7:00 p.m. The event is free.

To be a performer in the New Plays Festival, please contact info@oddfellows.org or call (860) 347-6143.
