Letter to the Editor: In Support of Russell for State Representative

As a concerned voter in the 36th District, I feel compelled to address the recent letters endorsing the Democratic candidate for State Representative that make unfounded personal attacks on Kathryn Russell. These letters misrepresent Kathryn’s character and focus on partisan politics and national issues, rather than the pressing concerns that directly affect our community. They are personal attacks rather than issue discussions.

It’s disheartening to see these letters using passive-aggressive tactics, referring to Kathryn indirectly while casting unfounded criticisms and assumptions which seem like they come straight from the national Democratic party playbook. They bring up abortion rights—a matter that is firmly settled and protected by Connecticut’s robust laws, and accuse Russell of not being “transparent” because she discusses affordability and community safety rather than abortion rights which have been well-established law in our state since 1990. Kathryn has never suggested altering these laws or given any indication that she does not respect the laws currently in place. Using “women’s reproductive rights” as a political weapon distracts from the real challenges we face.

Our district is grappling with some of the highest taxes, cost of living, and energy costs in the country. Businesses are burdened by excessive regulations, and many families struggle to make ends meet. Instead of addressing these critical issues, some choose to draw misleading comparisons to national figures and stir partisan divisions. Do they do this because they know that the majority party created the State’s financial situation during their 50-year majority control, and they want to distract us from that fact with fear-mongering around the issues of abortion, climate change and Trump?

Kathryn Russell brings over 30 years of substantial business leadership experience, including roles in Fortune 100 companies where she managed budgets up to $60 million. With an MBA from the Wharton School of Business, she knows how to manage resources efficiently, reduce waste, and deliver results. Her expertise in balancing budgets and making tough financial decisions is exactly what we need in Hartford to address Connecticut’s financial challenges.

Our community deserves leadership that prioritizes people over partisan politics. Kathryn believes in practical solutions and is committed to addressing the issues that impact us daily: reducing our tax burden, fostering a business-friendly environment, lowering energy costs, and making Connecticut more affordable for all residents.

I urge my fellow voters to look beyond these distractions and recognize the genuine dedication Kathryn Russell has for our district. Let’s move past partisan games and focus on electing a leader who will work tirelessly to improve the quality of life for everyone in the 36th District, not just one party. Kathryn embodies the integrity, experience, and commitment we need to navigate the challenges ahead.
