Haddam Senior Center Activities, Calendar, Menu for October 2024

Submitted by Doreen Staskelunas, Haddam Senior Center

(September 28, 2024) — Happy Fall, y’all! I have mixed feelings about the shorter days, but I am loving the cooler air! We’ve got a lot going on at the Haddam Senior Center in October. If you took a calendar on Thursday or Friday, take a close look at the attached schedule as some things have changed. I have also combined the activities calendar and menu into one document:

OCTOBER 2024 Event Calendar and Menu

Leading things off, we’ve got Bruce Kocsis from Banker’s Life coming in on Tuesday October 1, 2024 at 12:30 p.m. to discuss what’s new for Medicare plans in 2025. This is a talk you don’t want to miss.

We’ve also got MILE (Middlesex Institute for Lifelong Education) scheduled to give an overview of their program on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at 12:30 p.m. For those who don’t know, MILE was created in 1993 for the purpose of providing a learning environment that enriches the intellectual, social, and cultural lives of adults aged fifty and over who share a love of lifelong learning.

Beyond that, we’ve got River Valley Transit coming on Friday October 18, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., and a Flu Clinic sponsored by CRAHD will take place on Monday, October 21, 2024 beginning at 11:30 a.m. We do ask that you sign up for this event to ensure we have enough vaccines on hand, but walk-ins are welcome.

We’ve got a bus trip to the Pez Factory Visitor Center in Orange followed by lunch (more on this below) on Wednesday, October 23, 2024; our Pizza and a Movie will take place on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 12:00 Noon. The movie will be “The Boys in the Boat.” Finishing out the month, on October 31, 2024, we will have our Halloween Party! Please dress in your favorite costume and bring a fun Halloween snack to share!

We are expanding our Mah Jongg days to include Fridays! If you are interested in learning how to play this fun and challenging game, please contact Doreen and we will schedule another round of Beginner classes.

Hot lunch is served every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 12:00 Noon. The cost of lunch is $3.00 and requires advanced reservation.

October 23, 2024: Trip to the Pez Factory followed by lunch at Chip’s Pub in Orange. This trip will include a self-guided tour of Connecticut’s own Pez Factory Visitor Center, followed by lunch at Chip’s Pub. Seats on the bus are limited (11), so sign-up is required and first come, first serve. Attendees will be responsible for the cost of their lunch. The bus will leave the HES parking lot promptly at 10:00 a.m.

If there is something you would like to see offered at the Haddam Senior Center, please let me know. We are always looking for fun and enriching programs.
