Second Week Added to HHS Kids Summer Camp

Submitted by Haddam Historical Society

(July 11, 2024) — The Haddam Historical Society has a second week of its popular summer camp coming up in August.

“A Week in the Life of an Early American Child” will run Monday-Friday, August 5–9, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon each day. The program is offered to all children ages 8–12.

Haddam resident Paula Annino said of the first week of camp, “Our granddaughters, ages 8 and 10, had a ball! They learned and lived 1830 in Haddam. Great arts, crafts, games, dancing, food, and chores!”

Sue Costa, another longtime resident, recalled her granddaughter’s experience with camp years ago and said, “It remains a solid tradition at our wonderful Thankful Arnold House Museum each summer. It is a refreshing change from the ordinary camps that children attend in the summer.”

Campers will travel back in time to the year 1830 and spend the week with Mrs. Thankful Arnold, her family, and her neighbors. All activities take place at the Thankful Arnold House Museum in Haddam, and they include caring for farm animals, crafting with wool, making butter, baking over a fire, playing with Colonial toys and games, and even dancing! The fee is $159 for the five days, with all materials and snacks included. Some scholarship funding is available.

For more information and registration, go to www.haddamhistory.org. For questions regarding the program or scholarship information, contact Nicole Harlow, Education Coordinator, The Haddam Historical Society, at education@haddamhistory.org or call (860) 345-2400. All students must be preregistered, as space is limited.
