Update: Changes to July Events Calendar at Haddam Senior Center

(July 10, 2024) — There have been several changes to the Senior Center July 2024 schedule. They are highlighted in green in the document below. Click here:

JULY 2024 Event Calendar

A reminder that the Haddam Senior Center is open on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 as a Cooling Center from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. Stop by for coffee, cards, board games and lively conversation!

We had a very successful Farmers Market at the Senior Center, compliments of Bogue Farm. We are expanding the Market to a weekly event in July on a trial basis. If it continues to grow and flourish, we will continue it weekly throughout the season, which means into the fall. Bogue Farm will be at the Senior Center every Tuesday in July (7/16/24, 7/23/24, 7/30/24) from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. Please stop by and check out what they are offering each week.

To that end, Becky Rice, our Director of Senior and Social Services and Municipal Agent for the Elderly, will be at the Senior Center on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at 12:15 p.m. for a Lunch and Learn. She will talk about the Seniors Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP).

The Seniors Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is designed to:

·        Provide low-income seniors with access to locally grown fruits, vegetables, honey and herbs.

·        Increase the domestic consumption of agricultural commodities through farmers markets, roadside stands, and community supported agricultural programs.

·        Aid in the development of new and additional farmers markets, roadside stands, and community support agricultural programs.

This is information you don’t want to miss!

Also, don’t forget the Senior Center is now open on Fridays beginning July 12, 2024. The hours will be the same as the other days we are open, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For now lunch will not be offered, but feel free to bring your own. We do hope to add lunch in the future.

Lastly, I want to highlight another exciting program that we are offering at the Haddam Senior Center this month. It is the AARP Safe Driving Course which will be held on Monday July 29, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. There is a fee associated with it, $20 for AARP members and $25 for non- AARP members. Click on the flyer below for further information:

Sign-up is requested for this event so that the instructor can bring enough materials for everyone. Fulfilling this course may also provide a discount on your auto insurance. Please contact your insurance provider to find out if this is the case for you.
