Killingworth Library Summer Programs and Events, 2024

(June 24, 2024) —- The following programs and events will take place at Killingworth Library in July and August, 2024. Advanced sign-up is required for most summer programs. Please remember that adults must remain on the library premises with children under the age of twelve.

Life-Sized Candyland Summer Reading kickoff –Saturday, June 29, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Work your way through a “woodland” of games of skill and hands-on fun. For family members of all ages. No registration necessary.

Owl Babies – Tuesday, July 2, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Storytime and a STEM craft: we’ll build our own owl’s nest! For grades K through 4.

Read and Wonder – Tuesdays and Thursdays from July 2, 2024 to August 1, 2024,  4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Join Mrs. Fig as she shares the Read and Wonder series and shares fun facts about different animals. Please see website calendar for details. For grades K through 4.

Tales for Tots – Tuesday mornings from July 2, 2024 through August 27, 2024, 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Storytime for toddlers with Mrs. Fig! We’ll read stories, learn rhymes, and wiggle and move together. For ages 2 through 5.

Incredible Owls – Saturday, July 6, 2024, 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Join environmental educator Julie Ainsworth to learn all about owls, and even dissect some owl pellets. For ages 6 and older.

Nature Fable Skit Club – Tuesdays from July 9 through July 30, 2024, 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. If you love nature and putting on skits, join us as we act out “Pourquoi Stories” (like How the Chipmunk Got Its Stripes). For grades 2 through 5.

Whatzzz So Cool About Honeybees? – Wednesday, July 10, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Storytime and a STEM craft: we’ll make paper bees and honeycombs! For elementary ages.

Swirls in Nature – Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Learn about spirals in nature, both beautiful and mysterious. Then design your own snail with clay and various seeds. For elementary ages.

Save the Animals with Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center –Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Meet live animals and learn how you can help their species with some simple tips. For grades K through 5, and family members.

Marvelous Monarchs – Wednesday, July 17, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. Join Mrs. Fig and Stephanie Warren from the Killingworth Conservation Commission in this interactive workshop. We’ll learn all about monarchs and create our own butterflies to take home. For ages 7 through 12.

Learn to Play the Ukulele – Thursday, July 18, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Join Julie Stepanek as she teaches the fundamentals of ukulele playing. No experience necessary! Ukuleles will be provided for all, but participants may bring their own. For teens through seniors.

Special Surprise Saturday – Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30a.m. Storytime with Mrs. Fig, then attendees will design and paint a river rock which will “snake” along our library sidewalk, bringing a smile to all who visit. For all ages.

Mossy Story Time and Craft – Wednesday, July 24, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A reading of “Mossy” by Jan Brett, then attendees will design their own Eastern box turtle with natural materials. For elementary ages.

Become Little Heroes – Thursday, July 25, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Storytime and crafts: create your own lupine flowers with paint and Q-tips, and decorate your very own “Super Hero” cuffs – wear them home, spread kindness, and make a difference! For elementary ages.

“Who Would Win?” Showdown – Thursday, July 25, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Enjoy a reading from this popular science series. Then put your math skills to work – we’ll compare the difference in animals’ lengths, weights and speeds – determining once and for all: Who Would Win. For grades 1 through 3.

Pressed Flower Lanterns – Thursday, July 25, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Create a beautiful pressed flower lantern, to capture the memories of summer! Supplies will be provided. For teens through seniors.

Music with Margie Summer Concert – Saturday, July 27, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:40 a.m. Through music and movement, we’ll celebrate Mother Earth. The concert will be held either on the library’s back lawn or in the children’s room, weather permitting. Feel free to bring blankets; chairs will be available. All ages.

Busy Little Beavers – Wednesday, July 31, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. Join Mrs. Fig and Stephanie Warren from the Killingworth Conservation Commission in this interactive workshop. You’ll hear a story about beavers and get to engineer your own beaver dam with our STEM activity! For ages 7 through 12.

Let’s Get Buggy – Thursday, August 1, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Learn all about lightning bugs, hear a story, and create your own firefly to take home! For elementary ages.

Holiday Closing – Killingworth Library will be closed on Thursday, July 4, 2024 in celebration of Independence Day.
