HVFC Tours Bridge Road Commons Apartments

By Olivia Drake, HVFC Public Information Officer
(June 12, 2024) — Members of the Haddam Volunteer Fire Company visited the new Bridge Road Commons apartment complex on Bridge Street in the Tylerville section of Haddam on June 10, 2024.
Haddam Fire Marshal Chris Gamache and HVFC Assistant Chief Peter Brown spoke about the facility’s building construction, nearby water supply, and apparatus placement for pre-planning purposes.
Members took a walk-through of two apartment units and the future club house, noting the layout and location of smoke detectors, electrical panels, the sprinkler system, alarm system, and firewalls.
“It’s important for firefighters to know the complex layout and building design in the event we’re ever dispatched here for a fire or medical emergency,” Assistant Chief Brown said. “The apartments present their own set of firefighting challenges, which we need to be prepared for. Building materials, how they will burn, and the life safety features incorporated in this complex are very different from many of the structures we encounter in Haddam.”
