Letter to the Editor: HKYFS Suicide Prevention Training Program a Success

On Thursday, January 25, 2024, Haddam-Killingworth Youth & Family Services partnered with Brainerd Memorial Library and Tri-Town Youth Services to train H-K community members in QPR Suicide Prevention (Question-Persuade-Refer).

Suicide is the eleventh leading cause of death in Connecticut and the second leading cause of death for people ages 10-34.  (Source: American Foundation for Suicide Prevention).

QPR is a dynamic training for all community members who can become gatekeepers of support for loved ones, neighbors, friends and others.   You will learn to recognize the warning signs, clues and suicidal communications of people in trouble while also gaining skills to act to prevent a possible tragedy.

QPR can raise awareness, reduce stigma and provide tools for all of us to potentially save a life.

HKYFS is committed to offering more opportunities for Haddam-Killingworth community members to get trained in QPR.

Please visit www.hkyfs.org to sign up for our monthly newsletter for upcoming training sessions, programs, events and resources.
