Wrestling 2020: HKHS Places 4th at Chad Antoch Memorial Tournament

Submitted by Val Williams.

On the dark, dreary Saturday morning of January 4, 2020, at 6:00 a.m. the Haddam Killingworth High School Varsity Wrestling team boarded a bus to Rhode Island to participate in the Chad Antoch Memorial Tournament. Haddam Killingworth competed in the tournament against 15 larger schools from Rhode Island and Connecticut. Haddam Killingworth had 10 wrestlers participating in the tournament.

The HK team was very successful and placed fourth overall, just .5 points from third place. All of the wrestlers contributed to the team’s high ranking at the tournament. Our freshman wrestlers, Jacob Martone and Cavin Napoletano placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively. For our sophomore wrestlers Ben Williams placed second, Ethan Wright and Nick Glynn placed third and Sam Young placed fourth. For our Junior wrestlers, Cameron Hines, placed first and Thomas Perry placed third. Matt Carson placed fourth but had to forfeit matches due to an injury. Daniel LaRosa wrestled very well but also had to forfeit matches due to an injury.

The HK Wrestling team is coached by Kenny Markwat and Nick Adler, both HK alumni. Nick Adler’s father was at the tournament and noted, “Both of my sons wrestled for HK and I have been at this tournament eight times. This HK team is young and dangerous.   They are exciting to watch!”

Come support the HK Wrestling team at the HK Cougar Dual at the Haddam Killingworth High School Gym on January 25, 2020 starting at 9:00 a.m.
