What’s Going on at Haddam’s Senior Center?

Submitted by Marge DeBold, JoAnn Woickelman and Kaye Burgess / COA.

(January 20, 2023)—February may be a short month, but there is a lot of activity going on at Haddam’s Senior Center!

First of all, there’s a new Activities Coordinator to meet. Doreen Staskelunas joined the team in mid-January. She has been busy meeting seniors, learning about recent Center activities, and exploring ideas about programs she, and others of us, would like to have included in the offerings at the Center.

Doreen is a local resident, residing in Higganum with her husband Ed and sons Luke and Owen. Their daughter Amy and granddaughter Kendra also live nearby. She is retired from ESPN/The Walt Disney Company where she spent 32 years serving in a variety of roles. She is excited to meet and engage with the seniors of Haddam, so stop by to say hello!

Doreen is the facilitator of many activities. First, she makes a good pot of coffee and is, always welcoming when seniors arrive. Often the group of seniors sit around a community table sharing refreshments, chatting, talking about what’s going on in town and our lives, and adding companionship to one another. Those seniors who are present have the option of visiting with others or joining group activities. Look for these activities:

· lunch served at noon

· puzzle construction on and off through the day

· card playing on Tuesdays

· Bingo on the first and third Thursdays of the month at 1:00 p.m.

· crafts and other participation activities

· a Valentine’s Day special event this month

The Haddam Senior Center is open to all Haddam seniors Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. If you would like more information, please feel free to call Doreen at 860-345-2480 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on those days.

Along with Doreen, there are a lot of us who hope you will come by to join us.
