We asked the First Selectmen of Haddam and Killingworth for status updates in regards to roads and power after Tropical Storm Isaias came through on Tuesday, August 4, 2020.
Bob McGarry, First Selectman of Haddam, responded, “Eversource estimates 60% of Haddam is out of power, 2300 customers as of 2:00 p.m. [August 6]. There is no estimate on restoration.” He went on to say that Eversource said later today they would be able to estimate when the majority of customers would have power restored. “Some power has been restored in town, but Eversource has been concentrating on Make Safe operations to open blocked roads,” McGarry explained. He also said that he was seeking information from the Connecticut Emergency Operations Center, as well as requesting bottled water and MREs (ready-to-eat meals).
The Haddam Neck Volunteer Fire Station has been open for recharging, water and ice. The HK High School was open today for recharging, cooling, and water, but McGarry wasn’t notified until 40 minutes before it closed, so a message was not sent out. If it is going to be open again, he will let residents know.
