(December 2, 2024) — The Connecticut Department of Transportation advises the following construction activities at the Haddam/East Haddam Swing Bridge (Route 82) for the upcoming week of December 2, 2024:
Overnight Bridge Closures
- Motorists are advised that the contractor will NOT be performing overnight bridge closures this week.
- 63-Hour Bridge Closure – A full bridge closure to vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians has been scheduled for Sunday, December 15, 2024. The scheduled time of this closure is 8:00 p.m. The bridge will be re-opened on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. (Inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances could impact this scheduled closure. Any changes will be communicated).
- Single lane closures on Route 82 will occur Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. within the project limits. Traffic flaggers will coordinate the alternating traffic sequence.
- Both lanes will be reopened and operational during peak traffic hours.
Marine Advisory
Boaters are advised that as of December 1, 2024, the bridge no longer opens for tall recreational vessels. Openings will resume on February 15, 2025.
Mariners are advised that the contractor’s suspended scaffold, previously removed to provide additional clearance for vessels, has been reinstalled.
The tide clearance board is recommended as the best reference for gauging clearance at time of passage. The board is located on the bulkhead at Goodspeed, and has been set to indicate the vertical clearance to the contractor’s suspended scaffold.
The bridge operator can be reached at 860-218-4973. Please be advised that this phone number is designated for marine use only.
