Sustainability Committee Hosts Paper Shredding Event May 4th

Submitted by Kristin Battistoni

(April 20, 2024) — Happy Earth Day! Although the weather hasn’t always cooperated, spring is definitely here and it’s time to open the windows, air out the house and start your spring cleaning!

The Haddam Sustainability Committee is holding its 4th Annual Paper Shredding event on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at the former Haddam Elementary School, 272 Saybrook Road in Higganum. The event will run from 9:00 a.m. to Noon, rain or shine. Helpers will be on hand if you don’t want to get out of your car.

A donation of $5 is suggested per box. All money collected will be donated to Haddam Social Services.

The Sustainability Committee will also have information on our very successful Food Scraps Recovery Program. Don’t know what this is? Ask us how we have been able to remove more than 55 tons of food scrap waste from the regular municipal trash. We will have starter kits and extra compost bags for sale. We even have Sustainability Committee tee shirts.

Have a question for the committee? We can be reached at HaddamSustainabilityCommittee@gmail.com or contact Kristin Battistoni in the Tax Office at 860-345-8531 ext. 206.
