State Representatives Christine Goupil (D-Clinton/Killingworth/Westbrook) and Christine Palm (D-Chester/Deep River/Essex Haddam) will be hosting a virtual roundtable discussion on Wednesday, April 28th regarding sexual assault prevention as a part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The discussion will be streamed live on Facebook starting at 6 p.m.
Rep. Goupil and Rep. Palm will be joined by representatives from various advocacy groups, including the CT Alliance to End Sexual Violence, the Women & Families Center, and Jane Doe No More to discuss the prevalence of sexual assault in Connecticut, hear stories from survivors, discuss services available and what is being done in communities and legislatively to stop sexual assault.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to take part in a very serious discussion about sexual harassment and sexual violence,” State Rep. Goupil said. “This discussion will be about empowering people and helping them understand that resources are available for anyone who is being sexually harassed.”
“Sexual harassment and sexual violence are pernicious problems that exist in every community, workplace and educational institution,” said State Rep. Palm. “These are toxic behaviors that know no geographic, economic or demographic boundaries, so it’s vital that everyone understand them. We invite the public to join us and victims’ advocates to learn how to recognize, prevent and deal with these devastating problems.”
Sexual Assault Awareness Month, which first began in 2001, is held each April to raise awareness about the causes of sexual assault and provide individuals with the resources to prevent and report cases of sexual assault.
Members of the public can watch the discussion live at Facebook.com/StateRepPalm or Facebook.com/RepChristineGoupil. To submit questions in advance, email Annette.Lopez@cga.ct.gov
