(October 22, 2022) — In September, Regional School District 17 Board of Education member Brenda Buzzi announced her resignation because she is moving out of the district. At the Board meeting on October 11, 2022, Board Chair Suzanne Sack acknowledged her resignation and presented a certificate in appreciation for her service.
The Haddam Democratic Town Committee is endorsing Prem Aithal, an unaffiliated candidate. Aithal served on the Board of Education from July 2020 to November 2021. While on the Board, he served on the Finance Subcommittee and chaired the Strategic Planning Subcommittee. After his election loss, he was reappointed co-chair of the Strategic Planning Sub-committee as a public, non-voting member. His contributions include leading efforts to create a new vision, core values, strategic goals and objectives for the District based on feedback from townspeople.
The strategic plan was unanimously approved by the Board in May 2022. Aithal’s professional experience includes 23 years in corporate America, the past 17 years with Anthem, Inc., specializing in finance and strategic planning. Since April 2022, he has been a strategic planning consultant in the fields of education and non-profit and is currently working with three school districts across the Northeast. His platform is “Growth for All Students.”
At the time of publication, the Haddam Republican Town Committee had not endorsed a candidate.
This item is on the agenda for the Special Town Meeting to be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. at the HVFC firehouse at 439 Saybrook in Haddam during which nominations from the floor may be made.
