Russell Endorsed as Republican Candidate for General Assembly

Submitted by Ed Munster

(May 18, 2024) — Republican delegates from Chester, Deep River, Essex and Haddam were unanimous in choosing Kathryn “Katie” Russell as their candidate for the 36th House District seat.  At the nominating convention held at the Haddam Firehouse Community Hall, Russell accepted the party endorsement and told the crowd, “I am honored and thrilled to receive your endorsement!”

Russell, a Deep River Selectwoman, enters the race as an experienced business and municipal leader.  If elected, Russell promises to use her listening, business, and problem-solving skills to support the common-sense needs of  all the residents, families, and businesses of the 36th District.  “I will make sure that you have a rational, caring voice in our State Legislature.”

Russell loves meeting community groups and learning about their challenges. She places a high priority on listening, teamwork and developing and delivering bi-partisan, practical and effective solutions.

Russell holds a BA from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Wharton, and currently serves Deep River as Selectwoman.  She is a board member of River Valley Transit, serves on the Investment Committee of the Deep River Congregational Church, is a former Deep River Public Library Board member, and served on the taskforce shaping Deep River’s Affordable Housing Plan. She has a long record of board membership and non-profit volunteer work spanning her business career.

Russell looks forward to having face-to-face conversations with the residents of Chester, Deep River, Essex and Haddam as her campaign launches and evolves over the next several months. Once in the legislature, she says, “My key focus will be to look out for the interests of our four towns – – shaping policies and working to securing  funding and grants to ensure that our towns continue to thrive.”
