RSD 17 to Hold Community Conversation June 28th on District Master Plan

Submitted by Kerry Markey

(June 23, 2023) — Regional School District 17 invites Haddam and Killingworth residents to attend the second in a series of Community Conversations about RSD 17’s Master Planning process. The Conversation will take place virtually on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at 6:00 pm. Attendees are invited to join using the Zoom information found on the Master Plan website. Those without internet access can view the meeting from the Community Room at Haddam Killingworth High School.

RSD 17 is focused on achieving its vision and fulfilling the components of the Vision of the Graduate. To that end, the school district is creating a Master Plan to guide RSD 17 over the next 20+ years. The Master Plan process involves assessing the current state of the schools, identifying future needs and goals, and creating a blueprint for physical infrastructure and educational programs.

During this second Community Conversation, the school district will share several initial options for the future of the school buildings. These options were developed with the community input received to date, while also considering enrollment projections and the current conditions of our buildings.

At the community conversation, attendees will have an opportunity to provide feedback on the options that will be presented. Prior to the presentation, questions may be sent to masterplan@rsd17.org. There will also be time after the presentation to make comments and ask questions.

RSD 17 has already held an initial community conversation, conducted surveys, enrollment forecasts, a facilities analysis, and held multiple planning meetings. These materials and additional master planning information can be found on the Master Plan website.
