RSD #17 Budget Referendum #2: June 4, 2019

Editorial Staff.

On Tuesday, June 4, 2019, there will be a Budget Referendum in Haddam and Killingworth. Polls will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Killingworth and Haddam will have a yes or no vote on whether we shall adopt the RSD #17 gross budget of $42,348,913.52 for fiscal year 2019-20. This proposed budget is a reduction of $216,901.33 from the budget which failed to gain approval at the referendum of May 7, 2019.

Some of the reduction is due to teacher retirements and the difference in salary and associated expenses between the retiring persons and the new hires.   Other reductions are due to changes in staff assignments and miscellaneous cost savings. The adjustments were made during two BOE meetings on May 9 and May 14 and are available in detail by going to the website RSD17.org and click on the tab on the left “District” and then from the drop down menu select “Budget Information.”

Haddam residents will have a second question on the Referendum Ballot on Tuesday June 4, 2019:

Question #2 is a yes or no vote on whether Haddam should purchase the Haddam Elementary School and the surrounding 10 acres from RSD#17 for the price of $450,000 to be paid in three equal annual installments starting on July 1, 2020.
