(June 29, 2023) — At the June 28, 2023 meeting of the Lower Connecticut River Valley Council of Governments (RiverCOG), East Haddam First Selectwoman Irene Haines and Haddam First Selectman Bob McGarry tabled a motion to approve funding for the roundabouts project in Haddam.
The two-year long project will replace the intersection at Bridge Road with Saybrook Road and the intersection at Saybrook Road with the Route 9 connector with roundabouts.
Haines and McGarry objected to the timing of project, not to the work itself. Coming on the heels of disruptions from the swing bridge repairs, the project would be another blow to businesses in Tylerville, East Haddam Village and the surrounding area.
Both First Selectmen said the businesses need some time to recover and rebuild after Covid and years of road work in the area. The Connecticut Department of Transportation has agreed to meet with the First Selectmen to address their concerns.
