Killingworth, Connecticut (November 14, 2019) – The American Red Cross Connecticut Chapter will offer free smoke alarms and installations to Killingworth residents Saturday, November 16, 2019. The smoke alarm installations are part of the Red Cross Home Fire Preparedness Campaign to reduce the number of deaths and injuries due to fire.
Red Cross teams will canvass homes in the Beechwood Community during the day on Saturday to share fire safety and preparedness information and install smoke alarms in homes as requested.
Residents of the Beechwood Community and other Killingworth residents may arrange for a visit from the Red Cross to install smoke alarms by calling 877-287-3327, option 1. The Red Cross will schedule visits on Saturday and throughout the month and beyond.
The presence of working smoke alarms in a home cuts in half the risk of someone dying from a home fire. Smoke detectors have a ten-year life span—apart from the need for a functioning battery—and need to be replaced to be effective.
