Programs and Events at Killingworth Library, June 2024

Submitted by Tammy Eustis

(May 29, 2024)— The following programs and events will take place at Killingworth Library during June, 2024. The library is located at 301 Route 81 in Killingworth. 860-663-2000.

Last Day of School Laugh Fest – Tuesday, June 11, 2024, 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Join Mrs. Fig and celebrate the last day of school with some silly stories from Robert Munsch! Learn about this favorite author, and participate in the stories with cheerful chants and silly sound effects. For craft time, we’ll design some smelly paper socks for you to take home. Suitable for elementary school-aged children. Please register in advance, so we know how many friends to expect.

Rainbow Fish Play – Wednesday, June 12, 2024, 10:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Our friends from the Grove School Children’s Theater Troupe are promoting their love of story and stage again. Marcus Pfister’s classic tale will come to life as we meet a cast of colorful characters who teach us that we are only as beautiful as we are kind. If you loved Grove’s production of The Day the Crayons Quit, don’t miss this. Perfect fun for all family members. Please register to reserve your spot.

American Girl Movie – Thursday, June 20, 2024, 5:30 p.m.-6:45 p.m. Join us for a viewing of the movie Molly: An American Girl on the Home Front. Everyone is invited to attend, whether you participated in the American Girl Doll Club or not. We will gather in the children’s room or outside, as weather permits. Feel free to bring your doll of choice to watch with you. Please register in advance.

Play BINGO with Bingo – Thursday, June 27, 2024, 3:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m. Did you know that June 27th is National BINGO Day? Join us as we hear a BINGO story and play several rounds of Summer BINGO – complete with prizes! All participants can take home a summer reading BINGO sheet to keep their pleasure reading rolling. Please register in advance.

Life-Sized Candyland Summer Reading Kickoff – Saturday, June 29, 2024, 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Mark your calendars! Life-Size Candyland returns to the Killingworth Library for the fourth year. Work your way through a “woodland” of games of skill and hands-on fun. It will be a wild time! Candyland will be held inside the library. NOTE: while we will still be open for regular business, it will be (happy) noisy, with all tables set aside for the event. There will be a quieter space available in the library’s meeting rooms for anyone who would like to study or read the papers.

Other Library News

Killingworth Library is thrilled to announce our brand new Library of Things! This collection was sponsored by former Killingworth resident Dr. Alexander Walsh, in memory of his wife Suzanne Auer Walsh. It provides library patrons with access to tools, electronics, instruments, crafting materials, and more.

All items in the Library of Things are freely available for checkout to adults with a library card. We aim to expand our inventory over time, and we welcome new item suggestions from library patrons. View the current inventory (and lending policies) at killingworthlibrary.org/library-of-things-catalog/  Many, many thanks to Dr. Walsh for this fabulous addition to our community resources.

Holiday Closing: Killingworth Library will be closed on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 in honor of Juneteenth.
