One MacDonough Place, an assisted living community owned by Middlesex Health, recently received the 2019 Best Practices Award for Resident Care from the Connecticut Assisted Living Association. The award is presented to an assisted living provider that creates innovative programs and implements unique approaches in the area of resident care that exemplify excellence and are worthy of sharing with others.
One MacDonough Place received this award for its Purposeful Rounding Program. This program is modeled after rounding programs that take place in acute care settings like Middlesex Hospital. The goal for One MacDonough Place’s rounding program is to reduce falls and improve communication with residents.
The program was developed in collaboration with Middlesex Health Care at Home and Quinnipiac University’s occupational therapy graduate program. Resident care aides were trained on rounding with a purpose by focusing on the following: pain, possessions, potty and positioning. A simulation lab helped to introduce the rounding program. Rounding should ensure that all One MacDonough Place residents have everything they need to be comfortable and safe in their apartments.
