On the Shelf: New Books at Haddam’s Brainerd Library

Submitted by Jenny Law

(February 1, 2024) — Brainerd Memorial Library receives new books throughout the year.  Whether you are looking for mystery, romance, thrillers, science fiction or a variety of non-fiction, we hope you find something you like.  Here are some recent arrivals:

The Oxygen Farmer is a combination science fiction-murder mystery-thriller set on the moon.  It pits a mother and daughter against each other while trying not to destroy the moon.  This is not your typical murder mystery.

From favorite author Barbara Taylor Bradford comes The Wonder of It All.  This is a World War I story of a man offered the chance to restart and remake his life if he chooses.

The Mistress of Ashmore Castle by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles has plenty of romance, heartbreak and intrigue.  If you liked Downton Abbey and Bridgerton, give this book a try.

Knitting Peter Rabbit is a book with the sweetest little knit characters from the Beatrix Potter tales.  Detailed instructions are provided for knitting the animals, as well as constructing their outfits.

Hitchcock’s Blondes by Laurence Leamer showcases eight actresses who starred in Alfred Hitchcock movies.  The book explores how they survived his fixation and, often, manipulation of them.

The League of Lady Poisoners by Lisa Perrin gives us twenty-five women who poisoned others for a variety of reasons and with a variety of poisons.  The next time you are presented with a plate of wild mushrooms, maybe think twice before eating them!

Gardening season is fast approaching and The Milkweed Lands by Eric Lee-Mader is a useful and fascinating exploration of a key plant in our ecosystem.  This book is full of good information and beautiful illustrations.

We have many more books on the “New” shelves and we welcome reader requests.  Please stop in; get a library card, if needed.
