(Nov. 6, 2021) — Back in August a post went up on Facebook, “We are excited to announce our new location in Higganum, CT. Not only selling great quality hay, shaving, and grain for your furry pets; we are bringing the Farmers Outlet into the center of Higganum. Selling all local meats, eggs, milk, soaps, lotion, and a bunch more great handmade products. We are working hard but its not finished yet! Opening date coming soon.”
The opening date of Northeast Feed & Supply is here!
Ashley and Bradley Domkowski are the owners of Northeast Feed and Supply, which is located at 968 Killingworth Road, next to Dino’s Pizza in Higganum.
The Domkowski’s farm and business was in Middletown, but they decided that Higganum is where they wanted to raise their family. “We have always been involved in the agricultural community, being 4-H members, graduating from Mattabasset FFA chapter in Middletown, and even showing goats and beef cows at the local fairs,” said the Domkowskis. “We decided to start this business because we saw a need for livestock feed and hay to be delivered and more convenient for our customers, making it easier for them.”
In addition to hay and shaving, they will also sell Blue Seal and Kalmbach feeds. They are also adding a Farmers Outlet. This will be all items local to Connecticut: beef, pork, chicken, eggs, candles, tea, soaps, honey, handmade items, and more. When I was there on Oct. 31, they had tea from Bittersweet Farm in Higganum, Swedish dishclothes by Three Bluebirds from Greenwich, honey and beeswax skin balm from Fern’s Meadow in Meriden, soap from Treefort Naturals in Colchester, dog treats from Muddy Paws Barkery in Newington, all natural horse care products from Bee a Horse in Haddam. In the freezer, they had Ekonk Hill Turkey Farm ice cream which is located in Sterling as well as beef from R. Hills Beef in East Hampton. They even carry dog ice cream!
On their Facebook page, they posted that they are doing pre-orders for Thanksgiving turkeys. “The farmers outlet gives small local farms a storefront that they won’t have themselves,” said the Domkowskis. “Supporting small farms is what is going to keep agriculture alive in our state!”
Northeast Feed & Supply will be open 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. weekdays, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays, and 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sundays.
