No-Till Farm Equipment Demo Day June 18, 2022

Submitted by Janice Ehle/Meyer, RiverCOG

(June 3, 2022) —- The Lower Connecticut River Valley (RiverCOG) Regional Agriculture Council (including Middlesex County, Lyme and Old Lyme) has purchased some no-till equipment that all local farmers in the region are welcome to use. This has been done through a grant from the Department of Agriculture and there is no charge for the farmer to use the equipment. We have a no-till drill, a roller crimper and a transplanter available.

The Council will hold a Demo Day on Saturday, June 18, 2022 from Noon to 3:00 p.m. at 15 Jacoby Road in Higganum. (Rain date is Sunday, June 19). The event will demonstrate the equipment to regional farmers (eligible towns include Chester, Clinton, Cromwell, Deep River, Durham, East Haddam, East Hampton, Essex, Haddam, Higganum, Haddam Neck, Killingworth, Lyme, Middlefield, Middletown, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, Portland and Westbrook) and have them decide if they would like to use it on their farms.

It is a great opportunity that the Department of Agriculture has granted RiverCOG money to purchase farm equipment for local farmers. We hope that this new method will really help farmers save time and money while helping to sustain the soil and local water sources.
