There is so much more behind the newspaper in your mailbox.
Looking back to 2014, a small but varied group of residents organized around the idea of providing unbiased local community news in a timely manner.
An online news website was launched Labor Day weekend of 2014 and community support was overwhelming.
The breadth of the online news and community events covered is an incredible effort by the volunteer editorial staff. The number of articles posted over the past month range from 34 to 42 articles each week. That’s anywhere from 5 – 7 new articles every day!
The excellence and variety of the on-line content is reflected by the number of reader views which has grown daily to 1,300 on average with a best ever day of 3,212! Weekly views are now over 10,000.
Personally, I love knowing that I can get the election results the night of the local elections on line.
This civic minded group also sponsors an annual scholarship to a local graduating senior pursuing a communications related degree.
In November 2016, a print version was launched as a joint effort with East Haddam News and for the last three years, the publication has reached over 9,000 households on both sides of the river.
Remember that all print articles are also posted on Haddam-KillingworthNow.com and due to our limited print space you can find even more information, articles, and community events online. There is a Community Calendar, obituary listings, local sports teams’ results, human interest stories, and other archived articles.
In September 2019, the paper expanded circulation to all Killingworth residents. This increased the circulation to over 12,000 businesses and residents. With our intertwined community and involvement with Killingworth, it made sense to expand. We would like to thank our existing and new advertisers for allowing us this opportunity.
If you would like to be involved in this effort there are many ways to participate: send in a letter to the editor, support our local advertisers, take a photo at your child’s sporting event and submit it, stuff envelopes, or attend a community event or political meeting and send in a small article. Do you love something? You could write a monthly column. Right now we have monthly features of Food for Thought, Gardening, 100 Years Ago. What is your interest? We are always looking for volunteers. Students who want Community Service or experience to fill out their resume can write to us at Editors@HaddamNews.com and we can work to find the best way to utilize their talents, whether it is writing, photography, or editing.
If you are involved in one of the local organizations please make sure you send any updates, articles, or events to Editors@HaddamNews.org. No experience necessary and our editors will be happy to help polish your words.
We truly are providing more than just News WHEN you want it but also News HOW you want it
