WILLIMANTIC, CT (04/22/2021)– Eastern Connecticut State University’s Music Program held its annual Honors Recital and Award Ceremony on April 16.

Among the students recognized was freshman Grace Michalowski of Haddam Neck, who majors in Music. Michalowski is a recipient of the Freshman Award.

This ceremony featured the Music Program’s top student performers, who received recognition in academic excellence, awards and scholarships. Students passed a challenging screening process in order to be featured.

Students were enrolled in the courses “Individual Music Instruction” and “Advanced Music Instruction” and had to partake in a fall semester jury. The jury is composed of faculty members who determine which students advanced based on their performance in brass/wind, percussion, piano, string or voice.

This year’s ceremony also featured spring 2020 awardees and performers who were not able to participate in an on-ground event last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Music program provides a supportive environment, individualized mentoring and outstanding facilities where aspiring performers, composers and scholars can develop their talents. Success in a collegiate music program requires dedication, personal drive and an appropriate level of previous musical training and/or experience. Coursework provides theoretical and experiential opportunities which emphasize the history, theory, performance and criticism of music and musicians from Western and non-Western traditions.
