Minutes of Special Town Meeting, November 9, 2022

Tax Payers/Voters in attendance: Approximately 140

A Town Meeting was held on November 9, 2022 at 7:00 P.M. at the Volunteer Fire Company, Community Hall, 439 Saybrook Road, Higganum,  to consider and act upon the following purpose. The meeting was called to order by First Selectman Robert W. McGarry

 

  1. Call meeting to order
  2. Pledge of Allegiance.
  3. Ask for nominations for moderator.

A motion was made by Kate Anderson, seconded by Robert McGarry to appoint Tony Giamei as moderator of the meeting. Motion Passed.

The legal call was read by Town Clerk Robert W. Siegrist, III.

A motion was made by Marge DeBold, seconded by Jay Verdi to accept the call as read. Motion Passed.

A motion was made by Sean Moriarty, seconded by Wayne LePard to approve the purchase of real property from Rolumco Corporation located at 300 Saybrook Road, Haddam in the amount of $2,500,000 and the lease of real property on 305 Saybrook Road, LLC located on 305 Saybrook Road, Haddam. Motion Passed.

A motion was made by John Lutheran, seconded by Jamin Laurenza to appoint to the Haddam-Killingworth Recreation Authority (HK Recreation Authority) for the fiscal year 2022-2023: Peter Christopher, David Law, Jason Lonergan and Jennifer O’Neal.

A motion was made by Marge DeBold, seconded by Wayne Rutty to approve budget transfers in the amount of $1,105,000. Motion Passed.

A motion was made by Melanie Giamei, seconded by Peter Baird to fill a vacancy for a board member of Regional School District #17 Board of Education. Motion Passed.

A motion was made by Jennifer Favalora, seconded by Tim Teran to call for nominations to fill the vacancy on the Board of Education of Regional School District #17. Motion Passed.

Prem Aithal was nominated by Jennifer Favalora, seconded by Kate Anderson. Motion Passed.

There were no other nominations.

A motion was made by John Lutheran, seconded by Jamin Laurenza to close the nominations and to vote for the nominee.

 

  1. Voting took place by voice.
  2. Motion passed unanimously.
  3. Prem Aithal was elected to fill the position on the Regional School District #17 Board of Education.

A motion was made by John Lutheran, seconded by Jamin Laurenza to adjourn the meeting. Motion Passed.

The Town Meeting was adjourned at 8:10 P.M.
