(March 28, 2023) — The Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords will present their 33rd Annual Spring Concert entitled “It’s a Grand Night for Singing” on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. at Portland High School, 95 High Street in Portland.
Musical Director Samuel Tucker (right, photo above) has prepared a performance that will be filled with lightness, lift and bounce. His philosophy of music is that it should bring connection, beauty, healing and joy to our lives. It will definitely appeal to many in the audience who will be tapping their feet and mouthing the words, bringing back memories of when they first heard the songs. Alan Dougherty, accompanist, (left, photo above) will be tickling the ivories to bring his magic to the pieces. Vocal Chords is grateful for these two accomplished musicians who choose to share their talents with us and our audience.
“It’s a Grand Night for Singing” will include The Fifth Dimension’s “Aquarius, Let the Sunshine In,” Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”, Elton John’s “Rocketman,” Neil Diamond’s “I’m a Believer,” Crosby, Stills & Nash’s “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes,” Billy Joel’s “Tell Her About It,” which was inspired by the Motown Sound of the 1960’s, as well as music by Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, and a special moment with “What a Wonderful World,” arrangement by Mark A. Brymer. For classic purity, we will also perform “For the Beauty of the Earth” (John Rutter).
In addition, we will be presenting our scholarships to graduating students from Middlesex County who will be pursuing careers in nursing or music. Proceeds from tickets sales and some from our Patron Drive help to fund this very worthwhile community outreach program. Special thanks to our loyal followers who make this happen.
Tickets are $25. Call Diane at 860-347-2787 or Joyce at 860-342-3120 to reserve your seats. Visit us at VocalChords20.org for more information and “Like” us on Facebook.
