Message from RSD #17 Board Chair, Suzanne Sack, Amid COVID-19 Changes

(March 23, 2020) — Today, students and teachers begin a new endeavor together in earnest. The District has been busy this past week preparing to provide teacher-led instruction electronically, known as distant learning, to all of our students.  We are excited about this new opportunity and appreciate the district staff, parents, students and the community for their partnership, patience and positivity as we adjust to this new learning environment.

Circumstances around the spread of COVID 19 are changing rapidly making it challenging to know what each new day will bring. Right now our full attention is on our students and their experience in the new learning platform. In addition, the district administration has been working on a myriad of other issues that have surfaced with the closing of our school buildings on short notice.

The Board of Education plans to reconvene again on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 using an electronic platform as per Governor Lamont’s Order #7. With new announcements weekly from the Governor, we are working on revising and reposting our agenda to consider new items before the Board, including RSD 17’s 2020/21 budget, and will include instructions about how the community can view the meeting if they so choose.

We value our partnership with our towns and communities and understand the importance of transparency and collaboration.  We will continue to communicate when we have more information to share and are deeply grateful for everyone’s patience as we determine the best path forward on Board related issues.

Suzanne Sack, RSD #17 Board of Education Chair
