To The Editor:
I applaud Christine Palm, candidate for State Representative, 36 House
District, for her courageous stand on gun safety (Haddam-Killingworth News,
Oct. 10, 2018). With the increased frequency of mass killings in our schools
and communities, and evidence of a relationship between accessible firearms
and fatalities in domestic violence, I am encouraged that Christine Palm is
speaking out for gun safety and responsible gun ownership. It is an
unfortunate reality that there is an epidemic of gun violence in our country.
The Brady Campaign To Prevent Gun Violence reports that 90 men, women,
and children are killed by firearms every day in America. This is a sad and
shameful statistic, but more shameful is doing nothing about it. As an
informed voter, I join with the 90% of Americans who want responsible gun
laws (Brady Campaign). I hear the anguished cries of students who have
experienced school shootings and the loss of their friends. They are pleading
with legislators to ensure safety in their schools and to take action to prevent
these unspeakable tragedies in the future. We need elected officials who are
listening. I know Christine Palm is committed to gun safety and will work to
protect our children. Vote for responsible gun ownership on November 6th.
