Dear Editor,

I am writing to introduce myself to the Killingworth community as a Democratic candidate for Board of Finance.  I am a wife, a mom, an educator, and a lifelong believer in the power of community.  Killingworth has been my home since moving here in 2013, looking for a quiet rural place to raise a family.  Years later, as a working professional with a young family and long days, I find myself looking to build more lasting connections and contribute to the sense of small-town community that makes my hometown so special.

I am running for Board of Finance in the spirit of community.  As a high school principal, I am constantly working to build a supportive, respectful, and productive school community.  What I have learned over time is that the best way to do this is by rolling up our sleeves and working side-by-side for a common cause.  This is exactly what I hope to do on the Killingworth Board of Finance.

My qualifications as a school principal include extensive experience in the planning and oversight of large public budgets.  This includes prioritizing and balancing a tightly fixed sum of money in a way that will most benefit the evolving needs of a complex organization.  Likewise, our tax rate must remain stable.  We have the funds we have, working together we can maximize their impact.

As with our schools, our town will be receiving federal assistance funds that come with specific requirements and limitations.  The process of allocating these funds requires a deep understanding of the needs of the community in the context of those requirements.  As in all matters, I will actively seek input from all Killingworth residents on the use of these funds. I will come to the position with an open mind and a commitment to transparency.

Should you honor me with your vote, when this election is over I plan to sit at the table with my fellow Board members representing the people and needs of Killingworth – regardless of party affiliation or political leanings.  Please vote Row A on November 2nd and give me the opportunity to serve our community as a new member of Killingworth’s Board of Finance.

Respectfully,

Tara Amatrudo
Killingworth Board of Finance Candidate
