I love my town. This would be my sentiment today no matter the results of the recent election in which I ran as a first-time candidate for RSD17 Board of Education. I have lived here for just over twenty years, and my fondness for Killingworth has only grown stronger over time. I have always found one characteristic to be true of this town: we consistently show and appreciate kindness. When asked about my feelings regarding Killingworth, my answer has always been that people are simply kind to one another. Above all else, in my opinion, this should be the highest priority.

When our latest election was marred by negativity, lawsuits, and relentless social media attacks, we had a choice to make. Would we join in the mudslinging or rise above? I am proud of the decision I made along with my fellow candidates because these are our neighbors and friends, and integrity is more important than having the last word.

In the end, it was the voters who had the last word. We had a full Democratic sweep with every candidate winning our races, and I am extremely appreciative of the support shown to all of us. Each candidate is qualified, knowledgeable, and deserving of the position they now hold. Of equal importance, this group that I am thrilled to be a part of – is kind. And, at least in our hometown, kindness matters.

With heartfelt gratitude, I thank the people of Killingworth for electing me to the Board of Education. It has been an honor to meet all other candidates, and I wish them well with their future endeavors. I will take on my new role with respect and kindness and will always fight for our children, our educators, and this town that I love very much.
