Letter to the Editor: On the Passing of Miss Kitty

The views stated here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect those of the editors of this newspaper. Received April 8, 2021.

On Monday, April 5th our 35 year old bay mare, Miss Kitty, passed away from a pulmonary embolism. Ordinarily we would not publicly share news of a passing pet with our neighbors, but Kit Kat had become somewhat of a fixture in Haddam. Over the past 21 years, so many of you expressed delight in seeing her as you drove by our farm on your way to work, HKHS and the center of town.

Kitty lived a long and wonderfully full life; she showed as a pleasure horse in her younger years and experienced the joys of motherhood before retiring comfortably as our beloved “pasture ornament.” We felt blessed to have had the opportunity to be Kitty’s life-long stewards these past 33 years. We adored her beyond measure—she will be sorely missed.

We thank you all for sharing with us your stories about how she made you smile over the years. Whether you knew her from our farm on Killingworth Road or recognized her photo from the town website, it warms our hearts to know she was so well appreciated within our community.

Sincerely,

Jenn White,
Mike & Drew Santopietro
