Dear Editor,
As local campaign season begins in earnest, we find ourselves in a set of circumstances
unimaginable 9 months ago. That translates to a need for problem solvers who can work
both creatively and collaboratively within our State Senate and Assembly. Two such
candidates are running in our respective districts for these positions.
Christine Cohen is seeking a second term as State Senator from the 12th District. When
she first came to the Killingworth Democratic Town Committee two years ago to present
her case, she was articulate, energized and clear about her positions. As a freshman
senator Cohen chaired the Environmental Committee, was Vice Chair of the Commerce
Committee and a member of the Children’s and the Planning and Development
Committees. She has attended our Town Committee meetings almost every month since,
explaining her positions, discussing issues the senate is dealing with and how she thinks
we can move forward. She comes to us with more knowledge each month and the same
energy and enthusiasm.
Christine Goupil is running for the 35th Assembly District having served a term as
Clinton’s First Selectwoman. There she led a successful bipartisan effort to transform
Clinton to a Town Manager-Town Council form of government. During her tenure she
increased tax revenue through carefully targeted development that meshed with the
character of the town. Her professional career in project management provides valuable
experience in finding solutions to specific problems and working with teams to get
things done. Goupil is presently on the Clinton Town Council, the Connecticut River
Area Health District Board, and The Central Regional Tourism District Board.
Join me in voting for Christine Cohen for State Senator in the 12th District and Christine
Goupil in the 35th Assembly District on November 3. We need their energy and
experience working for us.
Sincerely,
Kathleen Amoia
Killingworth
