I’m writing this letter in support of State Representative Christine Palm. I recently moved back to Connecticut after living abroad for many years and, not surprisingly, I wasn’t well versed in local politics. That soon changed for me and my family when my oldest son suddenly became dangerously ill and was taken by ambulance to an area hospital. I thought that he would get fine care there, but instead he was treated callously by the staff and discharged without support or a follow-up plan. At that moment, I was overwhelmed, fearful and angry because this is a community hospital, a place we should have confidence in when we are injured or ill.
That day, I wrote a long email to Representative Christine Palm, telling her about our frightening experience. She responded immediately with warmth and genuine support and asked for more information about what had happened. We exchanged additional emails and I was extremely impressed with her intelligence, insight and concern. She couldn’t change what happened at the hospital but she could, and did, go to bat for us afterward. It made a significant difference to me and my family and I plan to vote for her in the upcoming election. At a time of divisiveness and contentiousness in our national politics and culture, Rep. Palm demonstrates the kind of empathy and willingness to support her constituents that we need in our elected officials. We are fortunate to have her as our state representative and she deserves to be re-elected in November. Thank you.
