Letter to the Editor: In Response to Mr. Wiley’s Letter to the Editor

In response to Mr. Wiley’s letter to the editor dated August 27th 2020.

I would like to express my disappointment in Mr. Wiley’s letter concerning the Support the Police rally. But for a different reason.

My wife and I attended the rally. Wore masks and distanced. We carried signs, but in support of Law Enforcement. The political signs didn’t bother us. The crowd was polite and respectful. In hindsight, I would have welcomed some Biden signs in support. Didn’t see any. Maybe the Trump supporters are more exuberant in their support for the President and the Police. A bit troubling was the absence of some politicians/candidates who did not show up. There was plenty of room, and as you said, the crowd was respectful. Their absence spoke for itself.

I couldn’t disagree more with Mr. Wiley’s assessment of the President’s treatment of the military. He’s done more for the VA than any I can remember, and has gotten personnel a number of pay raises. He’s invested in new equipment to replace all that was used in the last decade. He’s even created a new Service Branch. But most of all, he has done the greatest thing for the military. He’s kept them and our Nation out of stupid pointless wars and police actions that have proven to benefit no one but the defense contractors and logistic contractors. The President is correct in saying we should have been building schools, rehab centers, bridges and roads here than in some foreign land. He is the bookend to Reagan’s ” Peace through Strength.” Because of this alone, I support what he is doing.
