Letter to the Editor: Early Voting is a Plus for Voters

There is considerable misinformation that Early Voting will result in fraud, but there is no evidence to support it. That argument will appeal to those who want to restrict voting and limit voter participation, and who wish to cast doubt on the legitimacy of our elections, but it is fallacious and misguided.

Our legislative leaders have yet to determine the specific regulations related to Early Voting. In truth, the voting laws in Connecticut are archaic and need to be brought into the 21st century. They do not reflect the needs of many voters whose jobs and family responsibilities leave minimal time available to exercise their right to vote. Our democracy is stronger when we have greater access to the vote, and when opportunities for voter participation are greater.

I am confident that our legislators will institute voting regulations that will protect the validity of our elections and the security of the individual vote. They provided us with absentee ballot voting during the pandemic so that we could vote safely. It was widely used
and without any significant evidence of fraud. We have an opportunity on November 8th to improve voting laws in Connecticut. Early voting would expand voting hours prior to Election Day, expanding access to the vote and allowing for greater voter equity. This is the American way! I urge you to vote “YES” for Early Voting.
