Dear Editor,
The 14th annual National Friends of Libraries Week is October 20 to 26, 2019, and it’s the perfect opportunity to highlight the Brainerd Memorial Library Friends. Friends groups are non-profit organizations consisting of individual and business members who believe libraries are essential to their communities.
The Brainerd Memorial Library Friends promote education, programing, and advocacy. Through their fundraising, they help purchase equipment, support early literacy, provide book bags for summer reading, and contribute toward other library essentials such as the refurbishing of the outdoor book drop. The Friends provide many opportunities to make our community better and are always looking for new members and volunteers!
In September, the BML Friends and the library staff held a big book sale. It was a fun community event and it raised substantial funds for the library.
The Brainerd Friends volunteer on Thursday mornings to stock and organize Brainerd’s Book Nook, a used book store inside the library. Of course, all proceeds are used to benefit the library.
It’s easy to join; call or visit the library for more information. Joining the Friends of the Library is a terrific way to make new friends, give back to your town, and make our library even better.
Sincerely,
Betty Devlin
