Letter to the Editor: 36th District Deserves Leadership for Everyone, Not Just One Party

Renee LaMark Muir made it clear in a recent Facebook post, “I’m proud to be a Democrat and as your state representative I will support Democratic policies and programs.” She also said, “When a candidate distances themselves from their party’s values and policies… it is disingenuous and deceitful to voters.”

But I think Renee is missing the point.

Is it disingenuous to represent the people who are tired of party politics? Or is it time for someone to stand up for all of us—Republicans, Independents, Unaffiliated voters, and even Democrats who are frustrated with the same policies that have made Connecticut one of the most expensive states to live in?

For decades, we’ve had one-party rule in Hartford, and what has that given us? Skyrocketing energy costs, unaffordable housing, and rising taxes that make it harder for families to stay in their homes. Supporting those same policies without question isn’t leadership—it’s more of the same.

Renee has pledged to continue that agenda, but the 36th District doesn’t need another representative who serves one side. What we need is someone who will break free from the partisan politics that have led to this affordability crisis. We need a representative who will fight for solutions that benefit everyone, not just one party.

This election isn’t about party loyalty—it’s about real change, a future where your representative fights for your interests, not just party values. That’s why I’m voting for Kathryn Russell, the Republican candidate for State Representative. She stands for the people of the 36th District—all of us. She’ll bring fresh ideas, real solutions, and leadership that really will put people over politics.

If you’re ready for a representative who listens to everyone, then let’s choose a future that works for all of us.
