KVFC Members Participate in Class About Electric Vehicles

By KVFC

(March 1, 2023) — On February 19, 2023, members of the Killingworth Volunteer Fire Company participated in a class about electric vehicles. This class was presented by Battalion Chief Jason Emery of the Waterbury, Connecticut Fire Department. Battalion Chief Emery has been with the Waterbury FD for 28 years and is a 33-year veteran of the fire service. Jason serves as a SME for the NFPA in emerging technologies, and as the lead SME in their AFV safety program. He teaches throughout the U.S. and internationally. He holds a B.S. in Fire Investigation from the University of New Haven and founded Emergency Training Solutions.

The class included an introduction to Hybrid Electric Vehicles and Electric Vehicles identification methods and procedures, HEV and EV vehicle systems, hazard considerations and then the safety and emergency response procedures, including firefighting operations.

We would like to thank Jason for coming out and teaching this class for us on a Sunday. This training enhances all of our knowledge for what we may come across in our day-to-day emergencies.
