Killingworth’s 9th Annual Pumpkin Carving Event on October 22nd

(October 12, 2022) —If you are looking for something fun and quintessentially New England to do with your kids this weekend, you have to come to Killingworth’s 9th Annual Pumpkin Carving Event hosted by the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce, Killingworth Division, on Saturday October 22, 2022 from 12:00 Noon to 3:00 p.m. at Parmelee Farm.

Each child picks a pumpkin and goes to work carving the pumpkin to create their own masterpiece.  A hole is drilled into the back of each pumpkin and then strings of electric lights are inserted.  The pumpkins are then put on a multi-tiered stand and are lighted at dusk.  The effect is really quite stunning, as you can see!

This event is the brainchild of Killingworth’s Tim Gannon, who has been the Chairman of the Pumpkin Carving event since it began.  Tim and his wife Eileen’s daughter went to Keene State in New Hampshire, where a huge pumpkin festival is held each year, which Tim and Eileen would attend.  Tim got the idea to do something similar at Parmelee Farm.  Tim, Terry Doyle and a few others got together and built the stands where all the pumpkins are placed after they are carved.  Tim approached the Killingworth Lions Club and the Chamber of Commerce which joined forces to get the first event funded.

This year’s sponsors include the Killingworth Lions, Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce, Barnum Financial and The Hometown Team of Coldwell Banker Realty.  One of the sponsors, Killingworth’s own The Bread Girl, Eileen Unger Pleines, will be baking up her “spook-tacular” treats, which will be served with hot chocolate while the kids create their masterpieces.

This is a free event and we hope to see you there.  Parmelee Farm is located at 465 Route 81 in Killingworth.
